Goodfest Visible mending for clothes, hearts and minds
Workshop information
In a world dominated by consumerism to repair is a revolutionary act. To pick up a needle and thread is a miniature protest against throw away culture. In this workshop participants will learn the basic mending skills needed to take care of their own clothes. We will mend clothes by darning holes with colourful thread, reinforcing worn areas with sashiko stitching and learn how to apply beautiful patches. The workshop is aimed at total beginners and will give people the confidence to repair their own clothes.
Participants will come away from the workshop with a set of skills that they can use to perform little acts of care for their own clothes or for others and, who knows, they might even pass down these skills to someone else. In addition to that darning and sashiko stitching have been proven to be beneficial for mental health due to the repetitiveness of the movement. Let’s stitch together!
