Merlin Nation is the creative director and co-founder of Working Progress, an animation studio founded in 2017 to help organisations achieve positive change for people and the planet. He has been a designer, creative director and animator professionally for 20 years, but he has been a human being for all of his life!
With much of this time spent in the commercial sector, noteworthy projects include the launch film for Toyota’s hydrogen powered car and in-store holographic projection displays for Nike. Merlin has won a few awards along the way including an interactive BAFTA.
Attending a talk given by Greenpeace on their Save The Arctic Campaign was a pivotal moment and key motivation to starting Working Progress. Driven by a desire to align personal beliefs with professional practice, the seed was sown for a new creative studio. With the conviction that creativity, design and animation can be powerful tools for good, Merlin co-founded Working Progress with managing partner Fiona Lishman in early 2017.
In their first year the studio has created work for clients including Greenpeace, Global Witness, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Alzheimer’s Society, which they’re rather happy about. As well as being excited about what the future holds as the studio continues to build on it’s founding purpose.
